This Shining Night – May 13, 2012 Anniversary Concert

On Tuesday, December 10, 2002 a group of 16 singers performed the first Vocal Alchemy concert at St. Andrew’s United Church under conductor Robin King.  Now, at the completion of Vocal Alchemy’s 10th Season, we invite you to celebrate ten years of Vocal Alchemy together with the choir, conductor Jordan Van Biert and pianist Satomi Tozawa, and many friends and special guests.

This concert will feature music from each of Vocal Alchemy’s ten years of concerts, including music from concerts under the choir’s previous conductors and favourites from our last five years with Jordan Van Biert.

The first part of the program will include a cappella and accompanied music of Lauridsen, Vaughan Williams, Faure, Chatman, Stanford and others.  A small group of Vocal Alchemy singers will present Eric Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love Songs, together with our pianist Satomi Tozawa and violinist Adam Pappas.

In the second part of the concert, we’ll revisit some lighter favourites, primarily from our jazz and folk programs of recent years, with help from our favourite rhythm section: Brett Ludwig, piano; Thom Bennett, drums; Keith Rempel, bass; and a special appearance by Dan Davis on saxophone.

As a part of celebrating our history, we welcome David Wilson (Vocal Alchemy conductor, 2005-2006) who has done some exciting workshopping with the choir and will conduct several pieces in the concert.  Expect special appearances by guest vocalists too!

As part of a grand finale, we’ll be inviting all our special guests to join us on stage, along with any former members of the choir who want to sing with us!

Reception to follow with cupcakes baked by the choir.
