Vocal Alchemy is a community chorus in Edmonton,
under the direction of Jordan Van Biert.

Numbering 100 singers of a wide variety of levels of experience, the choir produces an ambitious three-concert season and regularly collaborates with a variety of professional instrumentalists and vocalists. The mission of Vocal Alchemy is to foster an appreciation for the art of choral music both for those who partake in singing with the choir and those who attend concerts.

The choir rehearses on Tuesday nights, 7:00 PM at Unitarian Church of Edmonton: 10804 119 St. Rehearsals for the coming season begin in September.

Vocal Alchemy is seeking a Choral Assistant for the 2017-2018 season, to assume duties including singing with the choir, leading sectional rehearsals, taking full rehearsals on an occasional basis, general assistance to the Artistic Director and (depending on skill and experience) conducting in performance. We are seeking expressions of interest from qualified individuals, and will structure the position around the attributes of the ideal candidate. This is intended to be a 9-month contract position.

The ideal candidate will have

  • significant musical and choral experience
  • choral conducting training and experience
  •  score reading ability
  • an ability to work with singers of a variety of levels of experience
  • an engaging personality and an interest in teaching
  • an interest in contributing to the artistic endeavors of the choir
  • an interest in further developing his/her skills

A high level of vocal and/or keyboard skill will be an asset.

Depending on the other commitments of the ideal candidate, salary and workload may be negotiable. Expectations, conducting opportunities and compensation will be commensurate with skill and experience.
